What does the 'Metadata Only' toggle do when creating a Catalog?
Question:
What does the 'Metadata Only' toggle do when creating a Catalog?
Answer:
The 'Metadata Only' option whether a catalog can be assigned within Impacts (as an owner or dependency). It does not affect using the catalog as metadata via custom properties.
Metadata Only = Yes
The catalog is metadata-only. You can still tag Projects, Scheduled Tasks, Impacts, Boards, Resources, etc. with this catalog via custom properties, and report on those tags.
However, the catalog will not appear in the Impact Owner or Dependency fields, i.e. it cannot be selected as an owner or dependency.Metadata Only = No
The catalog can be used both as metadata and in Impacts. Catalog items will appear in the Impact Owner and Dependency fields, allowing you to select them directly when managing an Impact.
This setting ensures you can control which catalogs are available for assignment versus those that are only retained for metadata purposes.
Example demonstrating how Catalogs with the 'Metadata Only' option switched off can be assigned to an Impact:
