FAQ: Editing Baseline Dates Using Schedule Bulk Edit
Q: Can I edit baseline dates using the Schedule Bulk Edit?
Yes. If you are a Project Administrator or App Administrator, you can update baseline dates via the Schedule Bulk Edit file by changing the BaselineStartDate and BaselineEndDate columns.
Q: How do I update baselines using Bulk Edit?
Download the Schedule Bulk Edit file from the Project Workspace or Watchlist.
Locate the
BaselineStartDateandBaselineEndDatecolumns in the file.Change the date values for the tasks you want to update.
Save the file and re-upload it.
Q: Can I create a new baseline for a task using Bulk Edit?
No. Bulk Edit can only update baseline dates for tasks that already have a baseline. If a task has never been baselined, the bulk edit will skip it.
To create a new baseline, you must use the Baseline feature within the application from the schedule view.
Q: Can I edit baseline dates multiple times, and what gets updated when I do?
Yes, you can edit baseline dates via Bulk Edit as many times as needed. Each time, it updates the most recent baseline entry only — it does not create a new baseline snapshot or a new row in the Baseline History.
Baseline History Entry | What happens? |
|---|---|
Most recent baseline (e.g. "Reviewed Plan" - 29 Apr 2026) | ✅ This entry's dates get updated |
Older baselines (e.g. "Project Snapshot" - 07 Oct 2025) | ❌ Not affected |
The baseline's name, date it was created, and who created it remain unchanged — only the Start Date and End Date values on that most recent entry are corrected. The Baseline History will still show the same number of entries.
Q: Who has permission to edit baselines via Bulk Edit?
Only Project Administrators and App Administrators can update baseline dates through Bulk Edit. Other users' baseline date changes will be ignored during upload.
Q: What happens if I only provide a Baseline End Date but not a Start Date (or vice versa)?
For Milestones: Only a Baseline End Date is required (if you provide only a Start Date, it will be used as the End Date).
For all other task types (Phases, Workstreams, Tasks): You must provide both a Baseline Start Date and Baseline End Date. If only one is provided, the row will be skipped with a message: "Skipping Baseline - provide both start and end date for baseline."
Q: What happens if my Baseline End Date is before my Baseline Start Date?
The row will be skipped and you'll see a validation message: "Invalid Baseline - End Date is less than Start Date."
